The newest console has just been announced and almost none of my concerns were addressed, but they probably will at E3, when they showcase more of the gaming potential of this machine. So, first impressions of the console were as follows: Xbox One? just a bit disappointed in the name, I personally would have liked to see something like Xbox Infinite, but they went a slightly different path: One console for all your needs - I like the idea. The second impression of the console was that it was really boxy. Shouldn't be too surprised, Microsoft has been taking that form factor for awhile now, from Windows 8 tiles and font, to the Windows Phone, makes sense that they bring it to the console as well, but overall, it looks sleek and I approve.
They also announced a "release date" of later this year. Hopefully there will be a price announcement at E3. They also included Kinect features into it, and were really bragging about the new Kinect, hopefully this means that the console will ship with Kinect and I won't have to buy a separate piece of hardware like I do now (if I wanted a Kinect). Overall I am pretty impressed with the hardware, but as with the Sony release and reading about that after the fact, I will need to see the gaming features, such as backwards compatibility before I'll plop down my hard earned cash on this new system.
